William Aliotti defeats Enrique Ariitu to claim Tahiti Nui Pro Junior win

William Aliotti from France took out the Tahiti Nui Pro Junior, an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 3-Star event, after getting the better of Tahiti surfer Enrique Ariitu in the final that took place at the main event site of Papara in Tahiti on Friday, April 12, 2013.

It turned out to be an exciting match-up, with both the surfers giving their hundred percent until the very last minute.

Once the dust settled, however, it was Aliotti who managed to emerge triumphant and grab a hefty share of the prize money, as well as some valuable ASP World rating points.

?This is my first ASP Pro Junior win, I?m really happy!? Aliotti said. ?To be in Tahiti for it makes the win event better. Everyday I was focussed and I didn?t fall much. Two years ago I did really good on the ASP Europe Pro Junior Series and then last year I did really bad so this win will give me confidence when I go home to compete.?

Aliotti had made his intent quite clear during the semi-finals, which saw him taking down Tahiti?s Vehiatua Prunier apart with an outstanding performance. The Frenchman selected two of the heat?s best waves to get to a heat-total of 17.25 points, which made the heat-total of 14.75 by his rival look like a dismal one.

Ariitu was looking in prime form on the final day of the competition as well, taking down Australia?s Mitchell Parkinson in the second semi-final after registering an impressive two-wave total of 15.00 points against his rival?s 13.75 points.

With both the finalists evidently in solid form, plenty of fireworks were expected off them in the battle for the overall win.

As expected, neither of the surfers seemed to be in a mood to settle for anything less than the top finish.

Aliotti made an early charge and managed to lock an excellent wave to unleash a series of exquisite tricks, earning a great score for the effort.

He went on to back it up with yet another impressive wave-score, thus moving to a heat-total of 16.40 points.

Ariitu did not stay too far behind his rival either and registered a couple of impressive wave-scores himself to get to a heat-total of 15.80 points. The effort, however, was not good enough and thus forced him to concede to his rival.
