Report: NFL likely to address Josh Brent situation soon

The Dallas Cowboys will make their way to Oxnard, Calif., for training camp at the end of next week and before then it should learn the status of defensive tackle Josh Brent.

It?s somewhat surprising, at least from our standpoint, the team has stood behind Brent as it has since he was charged with manslaughter intoxication in the death of linebacker Jerry Brown last December. More recently, Brent has been in jail 11 days for violating terms of his bond as he reportedly tested positive for marijuana twice.

Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reports right now Brent is eligible for training camp and preseason even though he sat out the entire offseason program. But the Cowboys will likely receive word from the NFL office in the near future on the eligibility of Brent, who also reportedly has consumed alcohol while free, another violation of his release.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has suspended players in the past well before the legal system has run its course.
